Nantucket by Land
Once on the Island, go virtually everywhere on The Shuttle, operated by the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority from May through early October. Beach service on the Jetties and Surfside routes runs from mid-June through Labor Day. Dates are subject to change. Visitor 1-day, 3-day and 7-day passes can be purchased aboard all Shuttles for unlimited rides. Please call or visit Nantucket Regional Transit Authority for current information.
If you arrive by Hy-Line Cruises
or Freedom Cruise Lines:
Stroll up Lower Main/Main Street, and turn left on Washington Street. Look for Shuttle stops for Sconset, the Mid-Island Loop, the Miacomet Loop, the Airport and Surfside Beach.
If Madaket or Jetties Beach is your destination, walk up Lower Main Street, then turn right on South Water Street. Shuttle stops are ahead of you on Broad Street in front of the Peter Folger Museum and the Whaling Museum.
If you arrive by Steamship Authority ferry:
Amble to South Water Street. Turn left, and cross Main Street to Washington Street. Look for Shuttle stops serving Sconset, the Mid-Island Loop, Miacomet, the Airport and Surfside Beach.
For Madaket or Jetties Beach, go to Steamboat Wharf and South Water Street. Look for Shuttle stops on Broad Street, near the Peter Folger Museum and the Whaling Museum.
Flying In?
From July 1, 2008 to Labor Day, catch the Airport Shuttle every 20 minutes to downtown in front of the main terminal. It runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. When the Airport Shuttle is not running, meet the Sconset Shuttle near Airport Road and Old South Road, a short walk from the terminal, or you can rent a bike at the airport.
Season Passes:
Buy Shuttle season passes at the Nantucket RTA’s newly relocated office at 3 East Chestnut Street, behind the Visitor Services office on Federal Street.
Ride a Bike or Walk:
Bring your bike aboard the Shuttle at no cost. Nantucket is blanketed by many scenic bike paths and pathways. They lead to downtown, beaches and some of the Island's most enchanting villages. Go to Wheels, Heels and Pedals for more.
